Q. How do ABA liquid fillers
work?
ABA designs and manufactures filling
machines to operate by volume, net weight or mass flow.
Technical descriptions for each machine model can be
accessed from our
information center or
through the product section of
the web site.
Q. Why do you use double acting positive displacement pumps
in your volumetric machines?
Our volumetric pumps are flooded with product on both sides
of the piston; this means that there is no "dry side" to our
pumps which increases seal and cylinder life and the speed
of fill. When filling a gallon can, for example, 1/2 gallon
is filled on the forward stroke and 1/2 gallon on the return
stroke. Not having a prime cycle means that the pumps are
ready to fill the next container the moment they have
finished the previous one.
Check out competitors single acting pumps in
the field! Chances are high that you will see product
dripping out of the dry side of the piston, this is product
which should be going into your customers cans!
We are still servicing 35 year old
volumetric double acting pumps ( which originated from the
UK ) these machines are built to last!
Q. Do you make both volumetric
and net weight filling machines?
Yes, we design and manufacture filling machines based on
volumetric and net weight designs and also offer units with
Coriolis mass flow meters for extremely high accuracy.
Q. Are net weight machines more
accurate than volumetric machines?
Not necessarily and typically no. A net weight machine can
be more accurate if you are willing to sacrifice speed for
accuracy. Typically, head for head, in-line net weight
machines run at about half the speed of volumetric machines
and match the accuracy.
* ABA guarantee accuracy to +- 0.25% by volume.
Q. I have heard that net weight machines are much easier to
clean, is this true?
Most people look at the different machines
and assume that a net weight filling machine has some ball
valves, a short section of pipe-work and a fill head to
clean whereas a volumetric machine has a pump, pipe-work and
the fill head so the volumetric filling machine must be more
difficult to clean!
This is in fact a fallacy, unless you are
gravity feeding to the net weight machine you have an
auxiliary pump to clean as well as the connecting pipe-work.
Our new swing head design allows the volumetric machines to
be easily cleaned utilizing the filter tub – a completely
integrated and simple system.
Q.
What happens when my production needs increase?
Our machines are modular in concept and
typically are supplied with provision to have additional
fill stations added on site at a later date. Our semi
automatic machines, for example, can be simply automated at
a later date by adding a conveyor and some simple controls.
